Early Kentucky Derby Favorite: She Be Wild
Breeder’s Cup Juvenile winner Vale of York is looking to bypass the Run for the Roses after putting in a bad run in Dubai. Early book favorite Lookin at Lucky another big question mark with skipped workouts and a delayed three year old debut, the Kentucky Derby is becoming an even larger puzzle for punters than usual.
But turn your eyes to She Be Wild, the runaway winner of the Juvenile Fillies, two year old filly champion and nominated for all three Triple Crown events. She is also nominated for the Kentucky Oaks. Unlike many of the other expected runners, She Be Wild will actually be three years old on the first Saturday of May. Like many Thoroughbred fillies, she is maturing faster than colts her age. This was also a trait of Kentucky Derby champion Winning Colors (1988) and the immortal Ruffian.
Not only does She Be Wild have the looks, she also has the blood. Sired by Offlee Wild, she is related to not one but two Triple Crown winners, Seattle Slew in the sire’s line and Affirmed through her dam’s line. Her pedigree screams distance, dirt and desire to win, making for some good Kentucky Derby betting.
Another plus in her favour is trainer Wayne Catalano, eight time champion trainer of Arlington Park. He just chalked up win 2000 in February. He’s hungry for a win but not as distracted by media attention like Bob Baffert and D. Wayne Lukas.
