Preview of The Belmont Stakes

The 214th Belmont Stakes will take place on Saturday June 5th, 2010 at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The purse has a one million dollar guarantee. This year is the thirty second year in a row in which there will be no Triple crown winner. The last horse to win the Triple Crown was Affirmed in 1978.

Trainer Dale Romans is hoping his horse First Dude, horse racing betting favorite, will win the last leg of the Triple Crown, with neither the Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver or Preakness winner Lookin At Lucky competing in the Belmont. Fist Dude finished second in the Preakness and third in the Kentucky Derby. He is in the number 4 position.

Headlining the race is Ice Box the Kentucky Derby runner up. He did not run in The Preakness in order for him to be better prepared for The Belmont Stakes. Ice Box is trained by Nick Zito and Jose Lezcano will be on his back.
Ice Box is in the number 1 position.

Game On Dude had an impressive win in The Lone star Derby. It was the winning combination of Bob Baffert who also trained Lookin At Lucky to victory at The Preakness with jockey Martin Garcia on his back.

Some other horses slated to run in the Belmont are Stately Victor, Fly Down, Make Music for Me, Drosselmeyer, Stay Put and Spangled Star.
