American Lion
Triple Crown prospect American Lion is ready and geared to race with the best of them this year. His sire, Tiznow, was the only two time winner of the 1 1/4 – mile Breeders’ Cup Classic and this racing skill seems to have been passed on down to his son. American Lion is considered one of the horse betting lines favorites to win the Kentucky Derby in 2010.
American Lion was bred by WinStar Farm and the Dr. William Lockridge. He comes out of the Storm Cat mare Storm Tide and was trained by Eoin Harty. He is mounted by Julien Leparoux, who was the 2009 Eclipse winning jockey. His first three races were on synthetic tracks, and his debut race he was the runner up.
He won the seven furlong Hollywood Prevue in November where he upset the race favorite on the final furlong of the race. He obtained the victory in that $100,000 venue and then held off a late charge at the Get My Fix venue in the final stretch. He has been a fierce competitor in races since then and has a chance to be a classic candidate for this next year.
The Triple Crown is the next big challenge for American Lion as he gains more recognition in the racing world. If he is able to distinguish himself in the Triple Crown line it will be a testament to his great lineage and great trainers.
American Lion has been going through some intense strength workouts by trainer Eoin Harty, and looks to be ready for the remainder of the racing season.
