Discreetly Mine (Todd Pletcher)
Based on his awards and credentials, Todd Pletcher is one of the greatest trainers of all times. He has won the Eclipse Award numerous times has started an impressive 24 horses in the Kentucky Derby. Yet there is still a missing piece to his list of accomplishments: to train a Kentucky Derby-winning horse. This year, he has many potential winners, including Discreetly Mine.
Discreetly Mine is currently 15th on the graded stakes earnings list with $340,000. His lone graded stakes win came at the Risen Star Stakes (G2), winning by 1½ lengths over Tempted to Tapit. He finished 2nd at the Futurity Stakes (G2) and Champagne Stakes (G1). Most recently, he was the 4th place finisher at the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby.
Discreetly Mine is one of a handful of Pletcher-trained horses seemingly assured to start in the Kentucky Derby. He is also the trainer for Derby horse racing favorite Eskendereya. He won four consecutive Eclipse Awards as outstanding Trainer of the Year, while topping the leader board in purse earnings in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Discreetly Mine is owned by his breeder, E. Paul Robsham. He is the son of Mineshaft and Pretty Discreet. Mineshaft was the 2003 Horse of the year and is a grandson of Seattle Slew, winner of the Triple Crown in 1977.
With just a few weeks before the Kentucky Derby, Discreetly Mine appears to have the earnings and credentials to start. Most recently, he was reported to be training at Palm Meadows with Mission Impazible and Rule, two of Pletcher’s other Derby hopefuls.
