Jackson Bend

Jackson Bend may not be the largest colt, but he has a way of stepping up big at the races.  He has shown that heart when he won the Affirmed Stakes, the Dr. Fager Stakes, the In-Reality Stakes, and lastly when he swept the Florida Stallion Series and made itself a racebook betting favorite by showing his heart.  It was even more impressive when he stepped up to race against an elite class of horses during the Holy Bull Stakes and the Fountain of Youth Stakes.

He was foaled on February 11, 2007 and started racing in 2009. He was sold to Robert LaPenta and started his training with Nick Zito in Palm Meadows. He ended up finishing second place in both the Holy Bull Stakes as well as the Fountain of Youth on February 20.

Jackson Bend is a third year colt and his training by Hall of Famer Nick Zito is starting to pay off. Nick Zito has had an impressive career as a horse trainer and boasts a record of two Kentucky Derby Winners, as well as a variety of other Triple Crown Classics such as Birdstone and Louis Quatorze.  He has trained a number of impressive horses including Bird Town and Storm Song.  He has accumulated almost $70 million in purse winnings with 1,400 wins.

With some wins under his belt, Jackson Bend looks to race in the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct on April 3 under a new rider. Zito has chosen Calvin Borel to take the reins and hopefully harness the potential of Jackson Bend. Although he is considered one of the smaller horses out there, he makes up for it in heart.
