Ron the Greek
Ron the Greek was foaled on May 9, 2007 and is a third year race horse. His 2009 season ended with a record of 2-0-0 and winnings of $44,400. He won an allowance and a maiden special weight that year and has an optimistic future ahead of him.
Ron the Greek is owned by Jack T. Hammer and is trained by Tom Amoss. Jack T. Hammer is from Florida and is a wealthy businessman who has had some luck in the horse racing industry. Tom Amoss was inducted into the Fair Grounds hall of fame in 1998 and Ron the Greek is his first horse to start in the Kentucky Derby.
This horse comes from a prestigious family line, being the offspring of Full Mandate. Full Mandate won the 1 1/8 mile Black Tie Affair during his career and his offspring have all went on to be successful racers.
Ron the Greek is currently the most accomplished of Full Mandate’s children and tipped as the future champion by many horse racing tips experts, after having won the Lecomte Stakes early in 2010. This was a breakout race for Ron the Greek and he came out of nowhere to beat the highly favored Maximus Ruler. In the final strides, Ron passes the leading horse and captured the $100,000 prize at Fair Grounds in January.
He just barely ran in the Risen Star Stakes but didn’t have enough to pull away in the stretch and ended up coming in sixth place. He lost by 4 1/4 lengths but is still set to race again on March 27 in the Louisiana Derby. Look for him to come off the pace strong and to make a good run down the stretch.
